Couch and Chink Positive Show Host Mr. Chinkee Tan.

Around 18,000 people are expected to grace this year’s three-day Philippine Small Medium Enterprises and Franchise Expo (PHILSME EXPO 2012) at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City from May 11-13.

The event, the fourth of the yearly expo, will showcase various products and stakeholders in the SME sector. Organized by the Trade Advertising Exhibitions & Conventions International Inc. (TRADECON), the three-day expo hopes to serve as a venue for product exposure in the domestic and international markets and a link among industry players.

SMEs play a major role in the country’s economic development as they contribute to the creation of business opportunities, generation of employment, and linkages to existing industries both here and abroad.

As of 2009, small and medium enterprises comprise 99.6 percent of the almost 80,000 business enterprises operating in the Philippines, according to data by the Department of Trade and Industry.

Sixty-three percent of the labor force earns their living through SMEs. While most of the jobs generated by the sector can be found in the National Capital Region, SMEs also propel employment in rural areas especially in economic zones spread around the country.

Aside from product showcase and a venue to link market players, the exhibit will also provide opportunities for idea exchange and product demos for budding businessmen.
A great deal of free services, workshops and seminars, classes and new product launches will also be highlighted during the expo as it promises to be the right avenue to increase the exposure of SME products in domestic and foreign markets, and to improve the distribution of SME products between local manufacturing and trade sectors as well as within each sector.
Various SME players from direct selling, agriculture, hotel and restaurant management, banking, marketing, insurance and service providers will be setting up their kiosks for the three-day exhibit.

At the press conference held recently, Chinkee Tan who is a wealth coach, motivational speaker and host of KBP Golden Dove awardee 92.3 FM Radyo Singko "CHINK POSITIVE" show expressed his support for the upcoming expo and is encouraging each one to awaken their entrepreneurial spirit and engage in business that they're good at and interested in.

Lydia's Lechon

If there will be a symbol for any Filipino festive occasions, what would it be?.. Of course "Lechon", & when i think lechon, first thing in my mind would be Lydia's Lechon.

With P500.00 as starting capital way back in 1965, Lydia and Benigno de Roca opened the first Lydia's Lechon retail stall just outside of the Our Lady of Sorrows Church, F.B. Harrison St., Pasay City.

In 1986 they opened their first self-service restaurant along the service road of Roxas Blvd., Baclaran, ParaƱaque City. While their patrons began to grow, the couple thought of giving them alternative to the cebu-style lechon. Then, the boneless lechon stuffed with seafood paella was launched. It was an instant hit; a unique gastronomical experience.

Lydias Lechon originally intended to be a close family corporation, the first franchise of Lydia's Lechon was sold in 2005 for a fast food and retail outlet at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City where i usually dine in & took pics for this story.

Today, Lydias Lechon is the biggest chain of lechon outlets in the country. Presently, there are 21 branches of Lydia's Lechon located in the Greater Manila area and Cavite.

Lydia’s is known for their Lechon of course but trying their combo meals lechon & their version of kare-kare it turn out to be perfecto! :)

Rufo's

Rufo’s Famous Tapa

Rufo’s Famous Tapa, yup you read it right “famous tapa”, their version of Tapsilog is quite extraordinary. Soft & juicy with rich sweet sauce, complementing their tagline – “Sauce pa lang, Ulam na!”.

Rufos story started way back 1984 where a group of friends opened a small eatery in Kalayaan Avenue, Makati city. The brand title “Rufos” was named after their noble boss.

Aside from their famous tapa, try their own version of Pinoy Beef Steak which tasted so good that I even ask for an order of extra rice and also try their Mushroom Adobo served in sizzling plate, so yummy & healthy.

A sweet ending with Creamy Fruit Fiesta & Black Sambo both two thumbs up!

Another thing great about Rufo’s is that all of their branches are open 24 hours & 24/7 Delivery, what can you say pa!

You can check their website at www.rufos.com.ph for more details.

Rufos rock! ;)

Dampa sa Libis

Dampa sa Libis

Dampa – Generally noted by Filipinos as a small shed near seaside. But for me Dampa means seafoods & a lot of seafoods. So whats the best Dampa place here in the metro?

Dampa sa Libis Seafood Restaurant Bazaar & Wet Market. Yes you read it right! A dampa with a twist of bazaar on the side. I’ve been a lot of dampa before but what really strucks me is my experience with this seafood haven. Aside from that, whats really cool about this place is that it offers spacious parking lot plus a Wi-Fi factor connectivity!

I have also known that Dampa sa Libis offers a very reasonable cooking charge as low as P90 half a kilo! Wow!

Fortunately while feasting on the sumptuous delicacies, I was able to meet their Assistant Operations Manager, Mr. Jorge Santos, who extends extra effort to show me around the place.

I was surprised to see all other amenities such as function rooms & venue areas. It is also remarkable to witness a very neat & tidy wet market who offers fresh catch seafoods.

I am not really a seafood fanatic but when I tasted their Fish Fillet with White Sauce I was able to finish the whole meal without realizing that I am nibbling a seafood and not a steak delicacy! Impossible but its real!

Try also their Buttered Garlic Shrimp and Shanghai Roll with Pork really very tasty! Yum…

Exaggeration on the side, but for now I can say that Dampa Sa Libis is the best Dampa in the town! Two thumbs up!

It is located at 107 E. Rodriguez Jr. Avenue Libis, Quezon City, you can reach them at 395-5050 and 637-3301 and its open from 8am to 12 midnight daily.

Hansel & Gretel

Hansel & Gretel

A Children's Musical at St. Scholastica's College Malate Manila

Hansel and Gretel are the young children of a poor woodcutter. When a great famine settles over the land, the woodcutter's second, abusive wife concocts a plan to take the children into the woods and leave them there to fend for themselves, so that she and her husband, with two fewer mouths to feed, might not starve. The woodcutter opposes the plan but finally, and reluctantly, submits to his wife's scheme. They are unaware that in the children's bedroom, Hansel and Gretel have overheard them. After the parents have gone to bed, Hansel sneaks out of the house and gathers as many white pebbles as he can, then returns to his room, reassuring Gretel that God will not forsake them.

The next day, the family walk deep into the woods and Hansel lays a trail of white pebbles. After their parents abandon them, the children wait for the moon to rise and illuminate the pebbles. They return home safely, much to their stepmother's horror. Once again provisions become scarce and the stepmother angrily orders her husband to take the children further into the woods and leave them there to die. Hansel and Gretel attempt to gather more pebbles, but find the doors locked and find it impossible to escape.

The following morning, the family treks into the woods. Hansel takes a slice of bread and leaves a trail of bread crumbs for them to follow home. However, after they are once again abandoned, they find that the birds have eaten the crumbs and they are lost in the woods. After days of wandering, they follow a beautiful white bird to a clearing in the woods, and discover a large cottage built of gingerbread and cakes with window panes of clear sugar. Hungry and tired, the children begin to eat the rooftop of the candy house, when the door opens and a "very old woman" emerges and lures the children inside, with the promise of soft beds and delicious food. Their hostess is a wicked witch who waylays children to cook and eat them.

The next morning, the witch locks Hansel in an iron cage in the garden and forces Gretel into becoming a slave. The witch feeds Hansel regularly to fatten him up, but Hansel cleverly offers a bone he found in the cage (presumably a bone from the witch's previous captive) and the witch feels it, thinking it to be his finger. Due to her blindness, she is fooled into thinking Hansel is still too thin to eat. After weeks of this, the witch grows impatient and decides to eat Hansel, "be he fat or lean."

She prepares the oven for Hansel, but decides she is hungry enough to eat Gretel, too. She coaxes Gretel to the open oven and prods her to lean over in front of it to see if the fire is hot enough. Gretel, sensing the witch's intent, pretends she does not understand what she means. Infuriated, the witch demonstrates, and Gretel instantly shoves the witch into the oven, slams and bolts the door shut, leaving "The ungodly witch to be burned to ashes", the witch screaming in pain until she dies. Gretel frees Hansel from the cage and the pair discovers a vast treasure and precious stones.

Putting the jewels into their clothing, the children set off for home. A swan ferries them across an expanse of water and at home they find only their father; his wife has died from unknown cause. The father has spent all his days lamenting the loss of his children, and is delighted to see them safe and sound.

With the witch's wealth, they all live happily ever after.

Pancake House

Originally established in 1970 and later acquired in 2000, Pancake House today continues to be associated with delicious comfort food, distinctly homey dining experience, and friendly service – all of which have kept generations of families coming back for more. Its dedication and passion to build a brand of excellence has garnered the 2005 Outstanding Filipino Franchisee and the 2006 Hall of Fame Award.

Pancake house basically is the Philippine's answer to America's International House Of Pancakes. It used to look like a really, tacky 80's diner, with its pink, yellow and orange color scheme. Now, it looks like a more modern diner with sleek lines, but the awful color scheme still stays the same.

Photo above is a Hamburger Steak Special set, it has hamburger steak (of course!) with gravy, an order of spaghetti and mixed vegetables, corn and carrots, plus a glass of iced tea. You have to spare 242php for this.

It's quite okay to say that you'll get your money's worth.

Bon Chon Chicken

Bon Chon Chicken, the Korean foodie favorite in New York.

This is the official Philippine franchise from Korea and NOT a franchise of the 4 Fingers Bon Chon in Singapore.

Bon Chon is the original double-fried chicken from Korea. The first fry removes all the fat and makes it "paper-fried crisp" and then the second fry includes the secret sauce.

Bon Chon's ambiance feels like a classier fast food setup / quick self-service restaurant where you order at the counter and wait for your food to be served at the table.

Mr. Scott Tan owned the Philippine Franchise and the president of Bon Chon Korea and USA.

Scott was chosen because he was the most persistent among the Bon Chon franchise bidders.

Bon Chon taste better than your average chicken but more expensive. By the way the flooring in their SM Megamall branch so slippery. Not comfortable to dine in. :(
